SS-780SA Single Serve Brewing System Review

Posted on 16. Nov, 2012 by in Product Reviews

Amazon ImageThis device is essentially the same as the Cuisinart SS-700, however it does not have the K-Cup pod pack (12 pieces) and the My K-Cup reusable pod included.

Features of the Cuisinart SS-780SA

The basic concept of a single serve coffee machine is brought to excellence thanks to Cuisinart’s great brewing machine. The basics are just as you would expect them to be in a high-quality brewing machine. The 80oz water tank is conveniently located at the side of the machine and it can hold enough water to last for a good number of cups without needing a refill. The built-in charcoal water filter sifts out the scale and other chemicals, which could ruin the taste of the beverage.

On top of this solid single-serve foundation stand the cool features of the machine. The 5 serving sizes come handy when you want to make the same brew as part of an ice shake or take it with you on the road using a travel mug. Did we mention you could actually remove the dip tray to fit even the tallest mugs and latte glasses underneath? For the lovers of a good Americano, we are pleased to report that the machine makes hot water as well, so you can forget about having to boil water separately while your coffee goes cold.

Using the machine is as easy as pushing a button. After all, that is practically all you have to do. If you want to have more control, just use the LCD located at the front of the device to navigate through the functions and settings. The machine has a built in clock using which you can set your brewer to auto-start and auto-shut-off at a time specified by you. This is incredibly convenient, as the machine takes about 3 minutes to warm up after which it can be used instantly. Just pick a time a little while before you wake up to have your brewing machine waiting readily for you to brew yourself a refreshing cup with the simple push of a button.

To use this machine, you will need to purchase K-Cup pods or the My K-Cup reusable cup separately!

What others say

We’ve done some research into the experiences people are sharing online with this coffee machine and collected the most informative bits below:

The Good:

  • The water tank is conveniently large
  • Effortless set-up
  • Fits well into the kitchen (both size- and look-wise)
  • Different serving sizes including iced beverage function

The Bad:

  • No K-Cups included with this model
  • Weak coffee is often produced
  • No possibility to raise temperature above the 190s.
  • Descaling takes a long time

Summary

In terms of functions and looks, this brewer is a great choice for those looking for a flexible machine with a lot of different solutions and possibilities. The only real downside is that the K-Cups are not included at all in this package, even though you will need them to brew coffee. Check out the SS700 if you think this may be a problem for you!
