KitchenAid Pro Line Series Burr Coffee Mill Review

Amazon ImageThe KitchenAid Pro Line Series Burr Coffee Mill looks a little funky and somewhat different to most other burr grinders out there, but the most important thing is does it create a good grind.

Let’s take a look at whether this coffee grinder is a good choice for you.

Features

The whole construction is build with solidity in mind. The main structure is a solid die-cast metal for unmatched rigidity and strength.

The beans hopper and the coffee bin are made from glass, which helps to reduce the amount of static created when the machine is in operation.

It doesn’t have as many grind settings as some other grinders in this price range, with 15. It should however give you a decent range for most coffee grinding needs.

It has two flat, stainless steel burrs which cool down faster than conical burrs. They require extra strength in the housing of the grinder too, which is another benefit of the die cast body.

The Good & The Bad:

The main issue that many reviewers have had with flat plate burr grinding mechanisms in general is that they will transfer more heat into your beans than a regular conical burr grinder, meaning you lose some of the flavour before you even start to brew. This is because plate grinders need to turn faster than conical, meaning that more heat builds up in them.

They can also create more dust and inconsistency in the grind when compared to conical burrs.

However, the KitchenAid utilises a low speed gear reduction system which helps to reduce the friction created between the beans and the burrs, whilst also making it quieter in operation.

It has been designed for years of heavy usage and you get a feel for this the first time you pick it up as it feels very solid. The burrs can be adjusted or replaced should they eventually become worn.

It’s easy to clean and the instructions are very clear on how to do so.

With an average rating of 4/5 stars on a number of online market places this grinder has pleased many customers with it’s years of long service and reliably consistent high quality grinds. So if you are looking for a grinder that will be with you for many years to come, then you can do a lot worse than the KitchenAid Pro Line Series Burr Coffee Mill.
