Coming in at under $100 in many online stores it is hard to beat on price.

Features

  • This machine takes convenient coffee pods or ground coffee as per your choosing
  • Has a “swivel jet frother” steam wand for steaming your milk
  • It has a self-priming function
  • Dual thermostats for ultimate control over water and steam temperature (something not always seen on more expensive models!)
  • Stainless steel boiler and a 15 bar pump pressure for reliable and consistent espresso

Well, it seems like it has all you would need, so lets take a look at what some of the folks who have already been using this coffee machine have to say.

Good points:

  • Nicely sized compact unit that doesn’t take up much space
  • Water reservoir holds enough to make around 8 espresso shots
  • Heat up time is around one minute
  • Really good crema
  • Steam wand is very powerful

Bad points:

  • The steam wand is quite low to the countertop, so you will need a smaller sized milk jug
  • Have to use small espresso cups as the unit is so small
  • You will need to buy a higher quality tamper as the built in one is very poor

Our Verdict

If you’re looking for an espresso machine on a budget but you still want one that will perform consistently and produce good quality coffee every time then you cannot look past the De’Longhi EC155.

It is unmatched on price and quality and as long as you look after it, ie. keep it clean, it will last you a number of years.

The thing we like about this machine is that it is not pretending to be anything else. It gives you the essential components needed for making a good espresso and none of the messing around. 15 bar pump pressure is expected of any good espresso machine and this one has it. Whilst it might only take small espresso cups, you can’t have a small compact machine that takes a huge mug!

Some people don’t like the fact that it doesn’t have a cup warming plate – come on people! What ever happened to improvisation? You wouldn’t buy a mini and then complain that it has small trunk space!

Steam wand? Check. Dual thermostats? Check. 15 Bar pump pressure? Check. Under $100? Check
