The Bodum Bistro Electric Burr Coffee Grinder

Posted on 19. Apr, 2012 by in Product Reviews

Amazon ImageThe Bodum Bistro Electric Burr Grinder is a great mid-priced grinder that has one or two pretty cool features that separate it from it’s competition.

As with all burr grinders, it has a wide range of settings for how fine or coarse you want to grind your beans but it’s main selling points are it’s sleek and stylish appearance and its class catcher.

The glass catcher is virtually static-free which means that when it catches the ground coffee, the grinds stay put without jumping around from the static charge that can be found when using a plastic catcher.

The upside of this is that you do not end up with fine coffee particles all over your kitchen counter.

Lets take a look at the rest of this machines features:

Bodum Bistro Electric Burr Grinder: Pros

  • 14 grind settings
  • Glass catcher with no static
  • Timed grinding up to 20 seconds
  • Silicone/Nylon lid for a no-spill experience
  • Slip-proof rubber band around the catcher
  • Produces an excellent and consistent grind every time

Bodum Bistro Electric Burr Grinder: Cons

  • The instructions state that it should be left to cool down for 5 minutes after grinding for a full 20 seconds (not good if you need to grind a lot of beans)
  • Glass jar seems a bit thin and easy to break
  • Settings can be a little fiddly to adjust
  • May need to check regularly for clogging

What are people saying about this grinder?

Take a look at some of these quotes from the many user reviews for this grinder on Amazon:

I love this grinder. Easy to clean, I can choose french press to espresso. But you have to be careful with glass container. – Brandon J Kim, Los Angeles, CA, US
Sounded to good to be true when I read other reviews, but this is truely easy to use, simple to adjust, and cleans easily due to the type of parts. I couldn’t be happier with this product – Randy Jacobsen, MISSION, TX, US
It produces a very nice, even grind – good coffee from French Press through Espresso. And its quiet. The twenty second limit is slightly annoying though. I start my first grind immediately and then do the second grind just as the water comes to a boil. Overall, very pleased. – Granger, Ithaca, NY USA

Who is this Bodum Burr Grinder for?

The Bodum Bistro Electric Burr Coffee Grinder is great for anyone who brews a few french press pots a day, or the casual home espresso drinker as it has the adjustable settings.

It’s relatively small output per grind means that you wouldn’t want to buy this if you expect to be churning out cup after cup of coffee at a party or any other large gathering. The 5 minute rest after a full 20 second blast on the grinder means that your output will be quite slow, but for most people at home making a few cups this will not be a problem.

This really is a great all-round grinder. It has a small footprint so will fit nicely on anyone’s kitchen worktop, it comes in a range of colours and produces a consistent grind.
